Energy-Efficient Renovation of Sundern Indoor Pool

Sundern indoor pool – things are moving forward!

Behind the scenes, a lot is happening right now: our indoor pool is undergoing extensive energy and structural refurbishment – and we’re well on schedule.

The project is funded by the European Union and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of the EFRE.NRW funding programme. The financing is supplemented by the City of Sundern’s own funds. Sorpesee GmbH is the client, implements the concept and the funding application, and supports the project’s implementation.

What’s happening right now?

The indoor pool is being almost completely restructured in terms of energy efficiency:

New energy supply
• pellet CHP unit for heat and electricity
• new transformer station
• significantly lower dependence on gas (almost completely)
• energy-saving electrical and ventilation technology

New building envelope
• new roof
• new external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS)
• triple glazing
• new glass and standing seam façade

More efficiency
• modern water management
• optimised ventilation and heat recovery
• overall significantly lower energy consumption

A lot is also being tackled inside
• new moisture-resistant acoustic ceiling
• improved room acoustics
• new showers and tiled areas
• structural strengthening
• refurbishment of the glulam beams (main + flat roof virtually as good as new)
• concrete repairs to columns and basement ceiling

In short: this is not a small renovation, but a comprehensive refurbishment of the entire building.

And yes – there’s still a lot to do until reopening. But the work is progressing and we’re well on schedule.

Our goal: in spring 2027, people will be swimming, diving and splashing around again at the Sundern indoor pool.
